The Yamaha® C7 grand piano is widely recognized as the most popular studio recording piano, but it is no ordinary C7.
This exceptional, custom-modified instrument is owned by famed Los Angeles piano technician Jim Wilson.
Part of what makes it unique is that this C7 is equipped with Renner®
“Blue Point” hammers with Weickert® felt – a special felt for piano hammers used during the “golden age of Steinway®” before the war cold Keyscape Serial Key.
This rare, long-fiber virgin wool felt (which became available again after German reunification) helps hammers produce a wider range of sounds.
Jim spent many weeks manicuring the piano voicing (including fine tuning the hammer felt density) for this project.

Far from the ordinary, this rare 1900 Wing upright piano is one of the most beautiful and unusual upright pianos ever made.
This centuries-old grand piano has a strong, warm tone with wonderful sustain – reminiscent of the turn of the 20th century.
We meticulously captured all the unique characteristics and nuances of this remarkable piano using multiple microphones.
If you look down you’ll immediately see something unusual – instead of the two or three pedals normally found on pianos, this one has four!
The two pedals on the left control “Instrumental Attachments”, a mechanical factory option that allowed the player, according to one of their 1903 print advertisements,
“the tones of mandolin, guitar, zither, harp, and banjo”. the pedal bears the designation “tremolo.”
